Some People enjoy the wonderful taste and health benefits of sweet potatoes round the year, but for many families sweet potatoes appear on the Thanksgiving table, and only then. We know some people who have not even eat a sweet potato.

Sweet potatoes were actually born in Mexico, Central and South America and as the West Indies. Its botanical name, batata Ipomoca, is derived from the American Indians of Louisiana, growing in the native gardens and in 1540. The Indians referred the sweet potato and yams.

On his first voyage of Columbus to the West Indies discovered many new foods brought to Spain. Sweet potatoes are among the treasures of his vessel. The Spanish enjoyed them and began farming immediately. Soon it was profitable to export to England, were included in spice cakes to be devoured at the court of Henry VIII.

The French, not to be outdone, planted at the request of Louis XV. They were favored in France only to death and then lost popularity over thirty years until the Empress Josephine, who was from Martinique, craved them. It was then returned to being the sweet potato trendy restaurants in Paris for a while, but once again fell into oblivion. It was the Portuguese who carried Camotes Asia and Africa, where they have become an important staple in the diet, even today.

There are two main varieties of sweet potatoes, yellow, drier, more mealy type with lighter skin beige and orange, wetter, candies with reddish skins that are often called "yam". Yam true, however, are nothing like the sweet potato, but are a tuber native to Africa, very starchy, not sweet, and grow as much as 100 pounds. For more information, visit http://www.indomunch.com/

Description

HEIRLOOM TOMATO: Heirloom Tomatoes are just what their name implies. They have been handed down, through generations of farmers and gardeners, from family member to family member. Many of these tomato varieties are known to have thrived since the 1800's. Unlike hybrids, they are not selectively bred for taste or appearance. They are open-pollinated, growing 'true to type' plants, like their predecessors, from seed. Heirloom Tomato Plants will add untraditional color and pleasing variety to your garden harvest. Black Sea Man Tomato: Small plants with medium-sized deep brown fruits, rich flavor. Looks incredibly odd when blanched and peeled, revealing skeleton-like veins under the skin. Potato leaf, but determinate, 75 days from transplant. CERTIFIED ORGANIC
